Crystal Chakras

A major focus in my creative work is to depict the chakras, the seven energy centers in the body based in Hindu tradition. These chakras align with the seven colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

I had a spontaneous kundalini awakening (just Google it) in 2017 that changed my life. Because of this experience, I have been learning about the chakras and how to heal and balance my own. It’s been a deeply healing journey for me in reclaiming my own power and purpose.

I have loved seeing the many different artistic renditions of the chakras and have always wanted to create my own. One of my first attempts was a poorly made crochet motif wall hanging. It still hangs outside my bedroom door. I can’t part with it despite how ridiculous it looks!

When I really got into macramé in 2018, I came across a crystal chakra wall hanging and knew I had to create my own version. In fact, it was my grand dream of various chakra macrame wall hangings that first made me think I should turn my love of fiber art into a business.

My first crystal chakra macrame was a mini, and I worked and reworked the details of the pattern several times.

Crystal Chakras Mini Macrame Wall Hanging by Grace Lucille

Above, my final version: More delicate cord and knot work, and no wire wrapping to distract from the crystals. My plan was to keep this mini design, but I’ve since decided to expand it in a different direction (stay tuned!).

After creating my first mini, I then created a larger version. I had the intention of adding more macrame work to this piece, but decided I’d let this one remain as it is. It’s beautiful in its simplicity:

I have several new ideas of crystal chakra designs floating around inside me that I look forward to creating ASAP. I’ve finally got the materials and now I just need to set aside the time to start making! It’s going to be lots of fun… stay tuned 🙂

The large wall hanging in this post is no longer available, but the minis are listed for purchase in my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/thegracefulbirch

  1. I’ve tried using crystals but mine never look that nice. How do you get them to lay flat on the hanging? Thanks. Beautiful work, by the way.

    1. I try to choose crystals that have a flat side and put that side down. But honestly most of them aren’t flat! It may appear that way from seeing a front facing picture, but if you look from the side the crystals all stick out in various ways. It just makes each piece unique! 🙂
