About The Graceful Birch

Hello! I’m Grace Lucille and welcome to The Graceful Birch 🙂

This website is a collection of stories and fiber art that I’ve created here in Central Maine, USA. Art has always been an important way for me to express myself and share where I’ve been on life’s journey. I discovered macramé in 2017 and went “all in” in 2018. It has been a very healing therapy for me.

I named this creative project and business The Graceful Birch in honor of the birch tree out back behind my home. In 2017 I had an intensely personal and spiritual experience while holding this tree, and during my existential/faith crisis of 2017, I clung (both physically and metaphorically) to the birch trees in my woods for stability. The protective and loving presence and guidance of these trees helped me to see and hold the neglected parts of me that need love and healing. I am forever thankful to trees and their deep healing medicine.

My current focus is on macramé, but I also enjoy working with felt and making jewelry. I love incorporating natural elements into my work such as crystals and feathers, and most of my macramé wall hangings are made on local driftwood or branches I’ve gathered from our property. My artistic interests are broad, including knitting, crochet, collage, and one day I’d love to get into journal making as well, especially because I love to write! Aside from handmade arts, I am also writer, blogger, musician, and avid gardener and lover of nature.

You can follow The Graceful Birch on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. I stay pretty active on Instagram and share a lot more over there than I’m able to here on the blog. I am still in the process of writing out many more fiber art stories, so stick around!
