Actually getting pieces listed for sale takes way more time and energy than it seems it should. My biggest challenge is getting good pictures. I thought that my kids' room had good lighting until I took all the pictures and realized the lighting was actually far from ideal. I know good photos can go a long way to getting a sale, and I'm just sorta hoping my pieces are good enough to attract attention despite my poor photography. Making art as a business is such an investment in so many ways. I'm still in the red and more expenses keep showing up, not to mention the mental/emotional labor of decision making and the time spent researching how to direct traffic to my shop, trying to figure out the right tags on listings and hashtags on social media, how to take better pictures, etc. So often I feel stuck. I need to make art for my own soul's sake. But materials ain't cheap, and I don't have room for all the artwork I make. So then I decide to turn it into a business. But in order to make money you have to spend money. And determining what to spend can be difficult. But one of the bigger factors is my health and energy levels. How much energy can I really devote to this? Creating gives me joy and a certain bit of energy. But trying to sell my work (in order to continue my creative passion) sucks up soooooo much energy. It becomes yet more things to add to my to-do list, which can become overwhelming as a highly sensitive person who struggles with anxiety. I'm still a stay at home mom with three little ones on top of it all. All that to say, I have several more pieces to list for sale but I'm just not getting to them very fast. Right now I'm just going to rejoice in the accomplishment of finally getting my dragonflies listed in the shop.
I have a ton more items to list in the shop but I'm so wiped out from the weekend that I'll pass on listing anything today. I designed and created these dragonfly wall hangings in the summer of 2018. I was having a rough day and saw the dragonflies fluttering around outside my bedroom window. I was so inspired by them that I got off my bed, dressed up, and started working on making a macrame dragonfly with the new faded indigo cord I'd just bought from @niromastudio . I wrote at length about the entire inspiration and process of creation on my website. I never intended to sell them, but now feel it's time to release them into the wild (haha). Alriiiighty folks! Just spent way too much time taking tons of pictures in the kids' room (best lighting) with the entire family. It wasn't as chaotic as it could have been, thankfully. My husband and I definitely need to learn some better photography skills haha. My face needs help (I know how to pose in front of mirror but I feel lost staring at a camera). Trying to figure out how to arrange things on the wall INCLUDING me is a special artform. Anyway, got most of the pictures taken which means NEW STUFF COMING SOON. And the dragonflies should be listed in the shop by tomorrow... so excited to finally get this done!!!! Lots of new items hitting the shop next week :) Yay!!! #gracienoon #macrame #dragonfly
Cutting the ends... always a tricky, tricky business. When doing a horizontal cut, I can't tolerate it being completely straight. I stagger the ends a bit. It may look like it "woke up like this" but I strategically cut every single string. This piece here is testing my patience but I am winning, so there.

It's been a while since I shared a pic of a finished piece. I was going over my shop and realized I needed to update the listing for this piece. I'm still learning how to optimize my Etsy listings for improved traffic... coming up with titles and tags is such hard work and I don't enjoy it at all. BUT that's part of generating traffic and sales. I wasn't sure I liked this piece after making it last year, so I had a low price on it. But I just decided to increase the price because I feel it deserves it. I am definitely in love with the top half of the piece. I'm not really loving the bottom half (it used to be cut straight across... the diagnal cut looks better in my opinion), but that doesn't mean somebody else won't completely love it. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I'm not going to tell people what they should or shouldn't like, especially when it comes to my own art. This macraweave was one of the first pieces I made after the birth of my last child. Here's what I'm feeling will happen: I'll do a big shop update at the end of the month. I have several finished pieces (including the Dragonflies!) to list for sale, including several almost-finished pieces. I have been unable to get to the photography, which for most of my work, is the biggest hangup for getting them listed. I need my husband's help for that and I figure I may as well finish more pieces and then do a huge photoshoot with him, get it all done at once. I'm also going to rig up a light box and FINALLY get good shots of my earrings and get those listed. Oh, I'm also working on writing up the stories for several of these pieces on my blog. Yikes! There are so many details. But some extra fun news... I'll also be running a sale on some items once I update my shop :) Sooooo, like I said... probably the end of the month my shop will be full of new things and a sale on old things. That's the plan anyway!
